Game Summary
CAROL STREAM GRIFFINS VS. GLENDALE HEIGHTS HEADHUNTERS This was very well one of the most exciting games in CFL history. The new franchise, the G.H. Headhunters entered with a bang by causing the Griffins to turnover the ball on their first possesion. The Headhunters then had a weak opening offensive series and forced themselves to make a change at the Quarterback position. Enter Joe Binkley who's passing was nearly perfect. Binkley had a nice completion percentage and threw for approximately 820 yards including NINE touchdowns and NO interceptions. Binkley mixed it up nicely completing many passes to standout WR's Matt Koppelman, Nick Kerwin, Logan Kerwin & Bob Mattingly. Koppelman made some primetime catches that made both teams wonder how he came away with the grab. The Kerwin boys each used their combination of size and speed to work their way up field. And Bobby, worked hard to get those extra yards for the first down. Altogether, the approximate receiving numbers for these individuals were 230, 100, 230 & 100 Also contributing to the Headhunter passing attack were WR's Bob Wiley and Rob Auerilius. Each racked up approximately 80 receiving yards. However, it would prove to be just a bit too little to overcome the Griffins. The Griffins were hungry for a win after falling to the Gamecocks the week before in dramatic fashion. The Griffins got off to a rough start but headed into the locker room at halftime up by two scores. Throughout the game WR Chris Benak displayed his athleticism on the field. Chris had another excellent game that was highlighted by his 250 receiving yards as well and his 175 passing yards. Because Chris can run a deep route and throw a deep route, he is the ideal SLASH player. Also making his presence felt on the field this week was Wingback Kenny Maningas. Ken collected approximately 80 receiving yards and was a force on defense. This weeks addition of Mike Underwood propeled the Griffins to victory. Mike tallied up approximatley 200 total yards and used his size primarily as a major advantage. Mike also was on his toes when he recovered a fumble and returned it for some positive yardage. Newcomers Adam Karich and Matt Balling provided the Griffins with some extra size and also some clutch grabs. Each had approximately 75 receiving yards. Wingback Dave Hennessey came alive in the second half. He sent the Griffins into the halftime with a splendid grab off a tipped ball in the endzone. Dave also had some excellent catches that can only be replicated by the great Randy Moss. Dave finished with approximately 300 receiving yards and picked up two fumbles. However, the victory wouldn't have been complete without QB Scott Davis. Davis completed a good portion of his passes to account for 805 passing yards. The Griffins played an excellent football game as all the members pitched in for the VIC. FINAL SCORE GRIFFINS 70, HEADHUNTERS 63
